25 Affirmations for PTSD and Trauma Healing

I didn't believe in affirmations much. In fact when I was told to engage in breath-work and journaling as a first step in my recovery, I was angry. But when I was at the point in my healing journey where I was ready to try it out, it changed my brain and my life.


There's no right or wrong way to use affirmations. What worked for me was searching the internet each night before bed and writing down 20 affirmations that resonated with me. I would also pick one that felt the most meaningful at that moment and write it down on the whiteboard above my desk. When this became a habit, wonderful, almost magical things began happening in my life.


I won't bore you with details of my experience because there's nothing worse then scrolling 20 pages on a blog when you came just for the specific thing in the title. So here it is, 25 affirmations for PTSD and trauma healing:


  1. I am safe.

  2. I am always home. Home is within me.

  3. There is no emergency in this exact moment.

  4. I accept every emotion as it is and I let go of the need to change it.

  5. I am excited to make more magical memories.

  6. I am physically safe from the past.

  7. I release the need to have it all figured out.

  8. I am patient with my body through the healing process.

  9. My emotions are not dangerous.

  10. I don't know what's to come, and that's so exciting.

  11. I am not responsible for the actions of others. I am only responsible for me.

  12. Recovery is possible.

  13. I have known moments of peace before, I will know moments of peace again.

  14. I accept that just existing some days is enough.

  15. I honour my body with rest.

  16. I look at myself through kind and understanding eyes.

  17. There are people who can and want to help me.

  18. I am strong when I ask for support.

  19. I am proud that I have been brave enough to make it to this day.

  20. I have control over my story.

  21. My story is only just beginning.

  22. I am stronger than I feel.

  23. My resilience makes me powerful.

  24. I am choosing to heal.

  25. The best is yet to come.
